About the West Canal Community Broadband Project

The West Canal Community Broadband Project first formed in early 2016, with a goal of bringing broadband service to Brinnon and surrounding areas in Jefferson County. The local telephone company had “abandoned” (their words) the area, and there were no viable options to get connected.

We had originally planned a small, community-operated network, but were fortunate when a local provider agreed to expand service to our area.

The group reformed with our original three members in 2021 to help advocate for community broadband projects, legislation, and funding in the region.
